Arianna Huffington
Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington (Greek American) is a Greek American writer, syndicated-columnist and businesswoman. She is the co-founder and CEO of Thrive Global, as well as the author of fifteen books. Arianna Huffington is an author and philanthropist as well as a television host and owner of the independently free online news publication The Huffington Post. Born in Greece, Arianna Huffington moved to England with her family at 16 years old. At Cambridge University she earned a MA qualification in Economics. As the first non-English speaking student to graduate, she was elected president of The Cambridge Union' at age 21. Being a conservative syndicated blog following her graduation, she was able to be a voice of the Huffington Post. It was her celebrity that led to the recruitment of a number of famous contributors who shared their thoughts on news as well as politics and culture. Arianna became famous in 2003 when she decided to run as an independent candidate for the California recall election in order to succeed the Governor Davis. Alongside this, she led a Detroit initiative to encourage vehicles that are fuel efficient. She was named The Most Influential Women in Media by Forbes in 2009, gaining 12th position on this list. The same year, the Guardian listed her among the 100 most influential media on their list. AOL Inc. purchased The Huffington Post, and she became president of the media company. This included many AOL properties of the time such as Engadget AOL style list and Patch Media. Elli was born to Konstantinos Stasinopoulos, and Elli and Konstantinos Stasinopoulos, who both are journalists and consultants in management. They were very close to her father. But it was her relationship with her mother that shaped her. Through her early years, she exhibited leadership skills for which she is still well-known. When she moved to England, she was 16, to pursue her education and was accepted into Girton College Cambridge. In college, she was a member of the Cambridge Union, a college debate group. Being the third woman president and the first foreigner she held the position of head of Cambridge Union. In 1972, she graduated with an MA in Economics. Following her degree she became a columnist, critic as well as a TV host. She also appeared with Bernard Levin in an episode of Face the music and started making books with his editorial assistance.
